VEO: Technicians’ daily work made easier by modern indoor positioning

VEO manufactures low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgears suitable for various purposes as well as control systems, automation and drive system cabinets. The company’s headquarters are located in Vaasa, Finland, where searching for tools had become a daily challenge for technicians. They were hoping to find a solution, which would help them locate the tools they need quickly and easily.

“Our partnership with Trackinno started in 2021, when we realised that we really needed help in the indoor positioning of our tools and devices. Every day, our employees had to spend too much time searching for tools, and we didn’t have up-to-date information about which tools we already had. Trackinno solved this problem for us with a well-functioning indoor positioning system,” says Reijo Paalanen, Production Development Manager at the VEO headquarters in Vaasa.

Real time positioning saves employees’ resources

At the Vaasa factory, the implementation of indoor positioning was started with a pilot trial, after which the positioning system was expanded to cover the entire factory. With the help of locators on the ceiling and tags installed on the tools, technicians can now track the location of tools in real time.

“Every employee has an app on their mobile device, which allows them to locate the tools they need, even to an accuracy of just centimetres. Indoor positioning makes our day-to-day work easier, as we can immediately locate the tools instead of spending time searching for them. Trackinno’s service has helped us save several hours of work per week, and we can now spend that time on more important tasks. Here at the Vaasa factory, we have nearly a hundred technicians, so the amount of time we are saving with the positioning system is very significant,” says Paalanen.

Easy cloud service makes work sensible

Thanks to indoor positioning, all the calibration certifications have now been gathered in one specific location where employees can easily find them. The visible benefits achieved through intelligent indoor positioning have also been noted by Mikko Peltoniemi, who has worked at VEO for 10 years.

“Trackinno’s mobile app is clear and easy to use. It has helped us direct our resources to actual tasks instead of searching for items. I am glad that we no longer have to spend so much time going back and forth in the hall,” Peltoniemi says.

According to the employees, indoor positioning has met their expectations, and there is no going back. The system is continuously developed together with Trackinno’s experts, taking into account individual needs.
